The framing should always be a surprise. Which is why I immediately eliminate the obvious, the expected and the trendy. At the same time, the framing should never be different for the sake of being different, just as great art never is. The principles of great art apply to framing as much as they do to the subject matter. Which is why great framing demands that the framer be an artist himself.
